Romero Law, APC keeps calling about an old debt - is this a scam or real (245 อ่าน)

So I have been getting voicemails and calls from Romero Law, APC for the past month. They claim I owe a debt from a few years ago, but the amount they are quoting seems way off from what I remember. The caller was really pushy and told me that if I don't pay a settlement amount by the end of this week, they are going to move forward with litigation against me.
What worries me is they already have my old address and last four of my social. That makes it feel legitimate, but I have read online that some collection law firms use scare tactics to get people to pay debts they don't even owe. I asked them to mail me proof of the debt and they got kind of rude about it, saying they already sent something (which I never got).
I am nervous about ignoring this and ending up with a default judgment against me. But I also dont want to pay something that might not even be mine or that is past the statute of limitations. Has anyone here dealt with Romero Law specifically? Are they known for actually filing lawsuits or do they just threaten to? Should I call them back or wait for something in writing first? Really stressed about this and could use some guidance from anyone who has been in a similar spot.
