PPE Challenges in Extreme Weather Construction (7 อ่าน)
5 ต.ค. 2569 12:23
Extreme weather can create serious challenges for construction workers, making safety planning more important than ever. High temperatures, heavy rain, strong winds, snow and freezing conditions can affect both worker performance and the effectiveness of protective equipment. Selecting suitable personal protective equipment in construction requires consideration of the weather, work environment and specific hazards involved.
During hot weather, workers may experience excessive sweating, dehydration and heat stress. Heavy or poorly ventilated PPE can increase discomfort, so breathable clothing, lightweight helmets and moisture-resistant materials can improve comfort without reducing protection. In cold conditions, insulated gloves, thermal clothing and suitable footwear can help prevent cold-related injuries while maintaining mobility.
Rain can reduce visibility and create slippery surfaces, increasing the risk of falls and accidents. Waterproof outerwear, slip-resistant footwear and high-visibility garments can provide additional protection. Strong winds may also make elevated work more hazardous, requiring secure head protection and properly fitted fall-arrest systems.
Employers should regularly assess changing weather conditions and ensure PPE remains clean, functional and correctly fitted. Workers should also receive training on recognising weather-related risks and understanding when protective equipment needs adjustment or replacement. Combining appropriate PPE with effective work planning and weather monitoring can help create a safer construction environment.
